This Special Collection orginated from the workshop Change of State Verbs – Empirical and Theoretical Perspectives which was part of the 44th annual meeting of the German Linguistic Society (DGfS 2022) and took place (online) at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen from 23rd to 25th February 2022.

Change of State Expressions

This collection explores change of state expressions across different languages from morphosyntactic, semantic, and pragmatic perspectives, taking into account several theoretical and experimental approaches. Both morphosyntactically simple as well as complex expressions (e.g. resultative constructions) are investigated with respect to their event and argument structure, compositionality, aspect, telicity, scalarity, culminativity, and implicatures.

• About Glossa Special Collections: Please take this information into account: "The main concern for SCs is to achieve a strong thematic unity, avoiding the impression of conference proceedings. The Glossa policy is to prefer small SCs with papers that constitute a tight fit, over very general ones with contributions that are only loosely connected thematically. The papers in an SC should be strongly complementary, and ‘talk’ to each other. • Problem: font (CharisSL) wasn't found:

  • Some of you will need to download and install this font in your computer.
  • Solution: Download and install the font. Link for download: https://software.sil.org/charis/download/
  • How you install the font depends on your operation system (Windows, MacOS, etc.).



• Problem: Compiling doesn't work (Message like "xelatexmk wasn't found"):

  • The document compiles with XeLaTeX, more precisely with "xelatexmk". It seems that some distributions (e.g. TeX Live) do not provide "xelatexmk" (see https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/108688/xelatex-vs-xelatexmk-compilation-what-s-the-difference).
  • The document "glossa-template.tex" is forcing your editor to compile with "xelatexmk" by the second line in the code: % !TEX TS-program = xelatexmk
  • Solution: If you change that command to
    % !TEX TS-program = xelatex
    Voilà, it works! (I hope :)
