Job ad: PhD position SFB 1412 - C07
PhD position (4 years) available in comparative sociolinguistic project!
For a project that is expected to start on January 1st, 2024, we are looking for applications for a PhD position at Humboldt-University Berlin, Germany. The project will be part of the Collaborative Resarch Cluster "Register" [https://sfb1412.hu-berlin.de/de/]. Our main research question will be: What is the impact of language ideologies on register distinctions in multilingual speakers? We will compare different societal macro contexts, in particular Germany, Australia, Singapore, and Namibia. There will be two PhD positions in the project, which will focus on Germany and Namibia, and on Australia and Singapore, respectively. We invite applications for the second one. We are looking for someone who is interested in language ideologies, linguistic discrimination and empowerment, linguistic repertoires, and multilingualism. Some areas of knowledge or previous research experience that would be a plus, but are not prior requirements, are: World Englishes, in particular in Asia; competences in one or more of Singapore's major languages (Malay, Tamil, Mandarin), knowledge of German.
Please send a motivation letter, relevant certificates (BA and MA certificates) and a CV as one pdf file by email to: oliver.bunk@hu-berlin.de. The deadline for applications is 22nd Nov 2023. Do not provide a letter of recommendation.
